Dharma can be translated to “life’s purpose,” and it is an essential component of yoga philosophy. So long as one is not acting and living in accordance with their true dharma, a sense of lasting happiness and fulfillment is impossible. Indeed, the entire text of the ancient Bhagavad Gita, one of yoga’s primary scriptures, is about the importance of finding and acting in harmony with one’s own unique and particular dharma.
