lilrongal asked: Hi! I was just reading your headstand ask/answer. Let me tell ya, I can't ever see myself doing what that one dude was doing. Anyway, I'm about to study with Aadil Palkhivala next week and I know he says you aren't supposed to even THINK about doing headstand until you have handstand and forearm balance mastered. A few of my teachers also teach the same way. I can only do any of them against the wall. (But I can rock the crap out of shoulderstand).
I was taught that HANDstand is the “beginner” pose and HEADstand is an intermediate pose. There are the safety issues with having all the weight on your head in headstand so I can definitely see why a responsible person would say to have a handstand and forearm balance down pat before going into headstand.
That being said, I learned headstand pretty early on in my yoga practice….
Have fun with your yoga workshop/training!
