The Risks And Rewards Of Practicing Yoga (npr link)
Who the fuck keeps hurting themselves in these yoga classes where the media feels the need to keep posting these articles?!
edit: I’m listening to the interview and like some commenters have said, its a legit interview. The dangers of yoga, according to the interviewee, lies greatly with the knowledge of the yoga instructors (which I agree with!). So if you want to be a yoga instructor stay away from online only programs! Your future students will thank you for it. The author suggests that 200 hour certifications aren’t a lot either. I know you can get yoga certifications in under 10 hours….. And if youre a current instructor, watch your ego. Don’t push students beyond their abilities. And the interview mentions, in so many words, that yoga isn’t cardio!-

Teachers just make your modifications clear, and always listen to your body. Use bolsters, blocks and straps they are there for a reason!

People who want to do hard poses right off the bat. People who aren’t self-aware. People who rush progress. People who are results oriented..

It’s pretty classic journalism—following the archetype of the moment. The inspiring event isn’t more frequent, just the choice to report it

I actually totally agree with this article-especially regarding shoulderstand. That pose is DEATH for most people who don’t know how to do it
